Session Recording Notice
How learner practice sessions are recorded for review, what is masked, who can watch, and for how long.

1. Why sessions are recorded
A mission is assessed on how you worked, not only on your final answer. A recording lets you and your instructor replay the session together for feedback, lets your instructor check a result you dispute, and lets us diagnose a fault you report. Recordings are not used for advertising, sold, or used to train AI models.
2. What a recording contains
| Recorded | Never recorded |
|---|---|
| The pages and documents shown on screen inside ITSPracticing, and how they changed | Anything outside the ITSPracticing tab, other tabs, your desktop, camera or microphone |
| Clicks, scrolling, navigation between pages, window size | What you type into fields — inputs are masked (an 8-character entry appears as ••••••••) |
| Which mission actions you took and when | Passwords — always masked, and this cannot be switched off |
| Error messages and warnings from the page (with anything that looks like a credential removed) | Cookies, request and response bodies, request headers (including sign-in tokens) |
| Network request metadata: method, address with sensitive parameters removed, status, timing | Drawings on canvases and 3-D scenes, and embedded image data |
Text that is shown on screen — for example a fictional email you are reading, or the decision you submitted — is part of the recording. Text you type is masked while you type it; once you submit it, it is saved as your work and appears in your attempt in any case.
3. When recording happens
- Only while a learner account is signed in and using ITSPracticing, and only if the Institution has recording enabled (it is enabled by default).
- Staff roles — instructors, teaching assistants, coordinators, administrators, reviewers — are never recorded.
- Recording stops when you sign out or close the tab. The last part of a session is uploaded as you sign out.
4. Who can watch a recording
You can watch your own recordings. Instructors, teaching assistants, course coordinators, administrators and reviewers at your Institution can watch learners' recordings within their role. Watching requires a specific recording permission, checked separately from other teaching permissions, and the database refuses requests from any other Institution. Our staff do not watch recordings except to fix a fault the Institution reports or to investigate a security incident.
5. How long recordings are kept
Recordings are kept. They are not deleted on a schedule, so a learner and their instructors can return to a session later — for example when reviewing progress across a course, or when a result is questioned. A recording is removed only when an administrator at your Institution deletes it, when a person's data is erased following a valid request (see section 6), or when the Institution's agreement with us ends and it asks us to delete its data. Deletion removes the stored recording files, not only their index.
6. Your choices
Recording is part of how your Institution assesses process, so the decision to use it is the Institution's. If you have concerns, raise them with your instructor or your Institution's data-protection contact. You can ask for a copy or the deletion of your recordings through your Institution, or by writing to us at privacy@itspracticing.com. Your other rights are described in the Privacy Notice.
